Editorial Standards & Corrections

Effective date: 11 August 2026 Last reviewed: 10 August 2026

ELIN publishes selectively. Selectivity is not a substitute for accuracy, fairness or accountability. These standards apply to the Journal, interviews, visual reporting and editorial material published under ELIN Editorial.

Editorial independence

Editorial judgments are made for editorial reasons. A partner, client, venue, supplier or advertiser does not receive favourable independent coverage in exchange for payment, access, hospitality or another benefit.

Commercial work is contracted by Nexum House Ltd and kept distinct from independent Journal decisions. Where a third party pays for and exercises control over content, it will be prominently identified as Advertisement or Advertisement Feature. A vague label such as “partner” or “sponsored” will not be used to disguise advertising.

Accuracy and evidence

We distinguish fact, analysis, inference and opinion. Material factual claims should be supported by identifiable, proportionate evidence. Statistics must retain their relevant date, population, denominator and source; data from different periods or definitions must not be presented as if directly comparable.

Anonymous or confidential sourcing is used only where the information has public value and the reason for protecting the source is credible. The editor must know the source's identity unless an exceptional and documented arrangement says otherwise.

Fairness and right of reply

Before publishing a serious criticism or allegation about an identifiable person or organisation, ELIN should:

  • set out the material allegation accurately and with enough detail to answer;
  • allow a fair and proportionate time to respond;
  • consider the response in good faith; and
  • state fairly when no response was received by the deadline.

Urgency, safety or a strong public-interest reason may affect timing, but the decision and reasons must be recorded. High-risk material requires pre-publication legal review.

Conflicts, gifts and access

Editors and contributors must disclose interests that could reasonably affect, or appear to affect, their judgment. Significant conflicts will be avoided or disclosed to readers. Travel, hospitality, gifts or privileged access will not purchase coverage; material support will be disclosed where relevant.

Images, recordings and AI

ELIN uses images, recordings and artwork only with a documented legal basis, licence or permission. Captions and credits must not create a false impression about authorship, location, date or documentary status.

AI may assist with research organisation, transcription, translation, accessibility or production, but it does not replace human editorial responsibility. Factual claims and quotations must be checked against reliable source material. Synthetic or materially altered media will be labelled where a reasonable reader could otherwise mistake it for documentary evidence.

Corrections, clarifications and updates

We correct material errors promptly and proportionately:

  • Correction — a factual error was changed. A note explains the material change.
  • Clarification — wording was accurate but materially unclear or incomplete. A note explains the clarification where needed.
  • Update — new information was added after publication without correcting an earlier error. The update is dated where material.
  • Withdrawal — content is removed only for a compelling legal, safety, rights or integrity reason. A notice should remain where lawful and appropriate.

Minor spelling, grammar, formatting or accessibility fixes that do not change meaning may be made without a note.

How to raise an editorial concern

Email hello@elinarc.com with the subject Editorial correction and include:

  • the page or article URL;
  • the statement or material you believe is wrong or unfair;
  • the correction or outcome you seek; and
  • supporting evidence or your connection to the matter.

We aim to acknowledge an editorial complaint within 5 working days. We will assess the evidence, conflicts and any need for legal advice, and explain the outcome or next step. Complex or legally sensitive cases may take longer, but we will keep the complainant informed.

Privacy complaints and requests are handled under the Privacy Notice and the separate data-protection complaints procedure.
